Tim grew up in Los Angeles and went to Westchester High School, where he was senior class president, and a classmate with Eric Reed, Regina King, and Nia Long, who went on to have their own successful careers. After matriculation, Tim enrolled at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, from which he graduated in 1991.

Before he turned towards directing, Tim tried himself as a singer, and was a part of the group T.D.F, which is a small part of Ice-T’s Rhyme Syndicate, but before any success was accomplished, Tim left music and moved on to directing.

Before he made his debut in 1997 with the film “One of Us Tripped”, starring Kimani Calender and Kevin Mambo, Tim founded an entertainment production company, The Story Company, however, the film was a bust, both critically and commercially. Tim used Mambo for his second film “The Firing Squad”, released in 1999, but unfortunately it wasn’t any better received than his directorial debut. Nevertheless, Tim wasn’t discouraged, and in 2002 made his breakthrough with the comedy film “Barbershop”, starring Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer and Eve, which received positive reviews and Tim himself earned a Black Reel Award nomination in the category for Theatrical- Best Director. His net worth was starting to rise.

Next came another success, a remake of the French classic “Taxi”, with Queen Latifah, Jimmy Fallon and Gisele Bundchen in the lead roles, and then in 2005 he was given the director’s chair for the fantasy action film “Fantastic Four” (2005), starring Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Ioan Gruffudd, which earned him two more Black Reel Award nominations, and also an Image Award nomination. He directed the sequel “Fantastic 4: The Rise of Silver Surfer” in 2007, but the film wasn’t quite as well received as the first installment. However, Tim continued with his career as a director with the sports drama “Hurricane Season”, starring Forest Whitaker, Isaiah Washington and Shad Moss, and then tried himself in the romantic comedy genre with the film “Think Like a Man” (2012), with the lead roles given to Chris Brown, Gabrielle Union and Kevin Hart. He also directed the sequel “Think Like a Man Too”, released in 2014, and the same year he also worked on the action film “Ride Along”, starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and Tika Sumpter, which became a box office hit earning over $120 million, which only increased Tim’s net worth. He also directed the sequel “Ride Along 2” in 2016, which also became a success, both critically and commercially, further increasing his wealth.

Most recently, Tim has been working on the TV comedy series “White Famous”, which will be released late in 2017.

Tim has also directed a number of music videos, including “Are U Still Down”, by Jon B and featuring deceased rapper 2Pac, “I Drive Myself Crazy”, performed by ‘N Sync” in 1999, then in the same year “He Can’t Love U” by Jagged Edge, and “Ryde Or Die Chick” by The LOX featuring Eve and Timbaland in 2000, among others, which also added a considerable amount to his wealth.

Regarding his personal life, Tim has been married to Vicky Mara Story since 2003; the couple has three children together.

1A few people called me about the black thing and said: 'This is major. You're a black director on "Fantastic Four." ' But all I was thinking was: 'I just don't want to screw up.' But then people were like, 'If you screw this up, we all got a problem,' and I said, 'Oh, man, I got that on me now?'
2I think to be a director, to be a little bit scared is the way you should do films.
